The opinion is purely for software engineering roles in technology oriented company, it may not suit other roles or industry.

As more and more people are getting vaccinated in the US, companies started to reopen the office, or, recommended employees to return to the office (RTO, RTW, lol) for onsite work. I sometimes miss the dynamics (a.k.a happy hours) in the office, however, I’m still skeptical about how I would feel about commuting and working onsite again. I finally decided to give it a try, to see if I really have the nostalgia of sitting in the office and enjoying the view from a tall building. In addition, my current company owns an office in World Trade Center where I never entered before — — — that also fuels my curiosity of heading out for work, again.

Well, after 1.5 year not commuting to a workplace, the first thing I would do after waking up in a workday is always brew a coffee, add milk on the top, and fry some eggs or cook scallion pancakes to fill the energy of my day. But I discard that routine after checking the map and the traffic in the city. The metro line near my location needs to transfer once to get to the office, so I decided to bike to the next stop that doesn’t require transfer. I go down from my apartment, carrying my 16’ MBP, jumping on a Citi bike, starting to sweat due to the hot weather — — — but…
